Save the Date for National Youth Violence Prevention Week - April 24 to 28.
Violence prevention takes community. It extends beyond a sense of belonging to include strong support systems and equitable structures. This is especially true for young people and their families, and, as such, we all have a role to play in preventing youth exposure to violence.
To celebrate the strength of community and amplify youth voices, the Violence Prevention Institute and Center for Youth Equity at Tulane University are honoring National Youth Violence Prevention Week a Field Day on the Greenway and a virtual conversation about the impact of gun violence on young people. We'll also be amplifying the work of local youth-serving organizations and ways to advaocate for their well-being with policymakers.
All events are free and open to public.
We hope connecting in community inspires action toward a future where all young people have the opportunity and support to thrive.
More details are forthcoming, but here is a bit of what we are working on for that week:
- Wednesday, April 26 12 to 1 pm CT – Understanding Gun Violence, virtual discussion, register here.
- Wednesday, April 26 4 to 6 pm – Field Day on the Green Way near the Lemann basketball courts, fields, and clubhouse will offer a variety of opportunities for folks of all ages to play. Building relationships, physical activity, and social connection are all protective factors against youth exposure to violence.
- Friday, April 28 – Advocacy Day, links and tips to connect with policymakers
No registration is required, and all community members are welcome.
