Biography
Peyton Jernigan is the Research Coordinator for the evaluation of the Community Violence Intervention and Prevention Initiative (CVIPI). With roots in South Louisiana, she originally came to New Orleans from Virginia to attend Tulane as an undergraduate student. After completing her undergraduate degrees, she received a Master of Public Health in the Social and Behavioral Population Sciences from Tulane, where she was a Pincus Scholar focusing on innovative approaches to violence prevention in New Orleans. During her graduate study, Peyton assisted with data management on the Supportive Hospital-Based Intervention for Firearm Violence (SHIFT) project at the Tulane Center for Youth Equity. While her research interests vary widely, she views community engagement as a core tenet of research. Peyton aims to integrate a community-focused and interdisciplinary approach to preventing violence within communities while centering relationship-building in her work.
